I’m a self-taught mixing engineer. Not much of any formal education but, I very much like to produce my own music, taking care of sonic details… As a result, mixing has been a crucial part of it. I love to work with many different genres, encompassing singer-songwriter materials, to loud rock, to free-jazz, to small group contemporary-jazz ensemble, to big band music, to fusion, to electronics, and many others.
my main goal for mixing is always to try to keep as true, as clear, and as honest as it is. Generally, I'm not trying to alter the “sound”, it is the MAGIC that I need to keep it alive and more importantly, my job is to “elevate", not to "change" it. There's nothing wrong with "changing"..., but to "elevate" seems to work as a better mantra for me.
